Lark is a deceased. He is a great wizard and Geera's great-great-grandfather.(From guidebook "Famicom Hisshoubon Dragon Slayer IV Hisshou Guidebook") Long ago, he embedded and sealed Keela in a rock wall like a mural.
故人。偉大なる魔法使いであり、ジーラの曽々祖父である。(攻略本「ファミコン必勝本　ドラゴンスレイヤーIV必勝ガイドブック」)
遠い昔、ディルギオスを壁画のように岩壁に埋め込み封印した。

Why does only the MSX1 version have portraits of Dawel and Geera without Lark's portrait? /
なぜMSX1版だけラークの肖像画がなく、ドウエルとジーラが肖像画になっているの？

The main reason is because of the hardware limitation of the MSX1.
一番の理由は、MSX1のハード性能の制約のため。

MSX1 uses 1 color per character and cannot display more than 4 characters horizontally, causing flickering.
Because the Worzen family uses 2 characters per person, it is not possible to display more than 2 people horizontally.
When the 5 main people were placed in order from the bottom, Dawel and Geera became the background (portraits) since they could only be placed at wall height.
The original portrait of Lark was removed.
MSX1はキャラクター1体につき1色で、真横に4体以上を並べることができずチラついてしまう。
ウォーゼン家の人物は1人につき2キャラクターを使うため、真横に2人以上並ぶことが出来ない。
主要な5人を下から順に配置するとドウエルとジーラは壁の高さにしか配置できないので背景(肖像画)になった。
元々あったラークの肖像画は削除された。

It is not known if Dawel and Geera are still alive in the MSX1 version.
なお、MSX1版でドウエルとジーラが存命かは不明。

Isn't the portrait of the old man in the MSX1 version Lark, not Dawel? /

The manual specifies ドウエル (Dawel) .
マニュアルでドウエルと明記されている。
